
Turkey, or officially the Republic of Turkey, is a country located both in Europe and Asia - with a very small overall part (3%) located in South East Europe at the coast of the Black Sea and east Mediterranean and much larger part in the most western tip of Asia - Anatolian peninsula. Waters of the Turkish Straits (Marmara sea, Boshporus and Dardanelles) mark the border between Europe and Asia. Capital is located in Asia (Ankara) but the biggest city is metropolis of Istanbul with more than 13 million inhabitants. Turkey is a popular place to go and number of its visitors trippled between 1998 to 2008 (up to 27 million).
The country is located at the major historical, political and economic crossroads and together with its rich cultural heritage and continuous endeavours to establish and successfully maintain democratic, secular, unitary and constitutional republic with effective relations to both Europe and Middle East is a place to explore. Not only to come and see Istanbul, but also set visitor`s foot into the antiquity of Troy and Ephesus and not forgetting the natural wonders of Cappadocia or Mount Ararat in the eastern part of Anatolia or variety of coast to dip into various seas. At the same time, regardless whether on business or holiday trip, the richness of the culture, hospitality and excellent cuisine would make you wishing to stay longer.
